Marvel's Avengers Review

Marvels Avengers:

When I first saw that Crystal Dynamics were creating a story-driven Avengers game I was initially skeptical, I was worried they couldn't live up to the standard set by Insomniac Games with Spider-Man Within half an hour of playing Marvel Avengers, my fears were laid to rest, this game explodes out of the box and doesn't let up, its epic in every sense of the word.

Graphics: At times in this game you'd think you were playing an uncharted game, not just because Nolan North is one of the lead voice actors but because some of the set pieces are epic, the game starts with a stunning battle on top of the golden gate bridge and rarely does it let up Its not an open-world game by any stretch but some of the levels can be quite big, each detailed really well. What I really loved was how each character interacted with the world slightly differently giving them all a different feel, Thor's lighting and Iron man's lasers are a thing to behold but the most fun I had was tearing through the world as Hulk. The character models are not the best I've ever seen in a game but they're good enough to convey the mood and to tell a really engaging story. Playing on the PS4 Pro, the game also runs really well, the only time I saw any sort of drop in frame rate was towards the end of the game when the enemies really started to pile up. Score: 9 Sound: This is by far one of the best sounding games I've played in a long time, the explosion, the crashing buildings, the roar of the Hulk as he tears apart enemies, it's just downright fun, throw on a headset and you'll be so sucked in so much every now and then you'll want to pause the game just to catch your breath. The voice acting is top dollar, with Nolan North and Troy Baker staring in this game I would expect nothing less, the surround sound works really with sound moving around you as your charter moves around the world Score: 9.5 Gameplay: You start out this game as Kamala or Ms. Marvel as she's also known as you attempt to reassemble the Avengers, you see the world through her eyes and you grow as she does. But what this game does really well is it doesn't let you settle too long on any one character, it's not long before your playing as one of the other avengers, it can be a little jarring the first time you change characters because you've come to identify yourself as Kamala and then suddenly you find yourself talking to her. But this is also the game's greatest strength, each character feels different, fights differently and all have their own skills and progression tree, they're all fun in their own way, but I have to say Hulk was definitely my favorite. The fighting is a whole lot of fun, linking moves together, smashing multiple enemies at once, there's even finishing moves here, its a very satisfying experience and the joy lasts throughout the whole game without becoming too repetitive Score: 9.5 Replay Value: The campaign in this game is a great unique story told in the Avengers universe, it will only take you 10-12 hours to finish the campaign depending on what difficulty you chose and how much of a completionist you are. But the surprising this here is that once you finish the main campaign and a whole new world of missions and multiplayer levels appear, couple that with new characters and stories coming down the track and you've got yourself a game with a really long tail. If you're someone who likes to just consume the story and move on to the next game, then you'll enjoy this, if you're someone who likes to play a game for hundreds of hours then you're in for a treat here too. Score: 9.5 Summary: When the credits started rolling on this game all I could think is I want more, the story is good, the gameplay is great and more importantly, the game is fun, I loved bringing the avengers back together, and while they're not the same Avengers you're used to in the movies you feel like you know them which helps make the story compelling Crystal Dynamics have done an amazing job here, balancing story, gameplay and replay value, there's something here for all types of gamers and that's not an easy thing to do, get out there and grab this game on your favorite platform, you won't be disappointed.
